Reviewing "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times"

N. Graham Standish, a Presbyterian Pastor, has certainly created a masterpiece in the book, "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times". Despite the fact that the book is mainly oriented towards the Judeo-Christian worldview, "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times" is actually built around a guideline used by Buddhists to gain insights into the Universe.

Throughout the Christian belief, there exist certain paradoxes. For those who do not know, a paradox is a statement that seemingly contradicts itself and is nevertheless true. "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times" explores these concepts and attempts to engage them in order to reveal the truths that they conceal.

The first paradox explored is the concept of "to be strong we have to be weak". The book "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times" explores this theory which is so prevalent in Christian belief. We can observe this in the way that Christians are called to surrender themselves to God's will in order to emerge victorious. AS you can see, the need for surrender in order to achieve victory can be a confusing paradox for a lot of people. "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times" attempts to make people understand just how they can get strength by admitting their own weakness

The next paradox explored by the book, "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times" is "to save our lives, we have to lose them". Salvation is one of the main promises of Christianity to the believer. Yet how can a person be saved if he or she does not know the fact that he or she is lost. The book "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times" helps people understand that in losing their lives, they will be able to find a way to save them.

"Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times" also explores the paradox of "to know God we have to know ourselves". People think too much about who God is. What many fail to realize is that Man is created in God's image. Therefore, there is much that we can know about God merely by taking the time to carefully examine ourselves. "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times" make people understand that God is in each and every one of them and that they only need to look carefully enough to feel His presence.

Another paradox explored by the book, "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times" is the paradox of "to become mature, you have to become children". Many Christians today strive for what they term as "spiritual growth". People who feel that they had enough milk now come to seek meat. However, the paradox is that you are not really mature unless you realize that you are not yet mature. Maturity is not something that you can claim. "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times" makes people understand that Christian maturity cannot be achieved by someone who actively searches for it. "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times" makes people rethink their lives and the fact that they really need to master the basics before they can move on with other lessons.

These are just some of the concepts "Paradoxes for Living: Cultivating Faith in Confusing Times". As you can see, the Christian belief is indeed full of many things which seem contradictory but are, nevertheless, true.
